How to get from the airport to downtown

The center of Budapest is Deák Ferenc tér. This is where three of the four metro lines (numbers 1,2 and 3) meet. Note that it is on the Pest side (East bank of the Danube) of the city while the conference venue is on the Buda side (West bank of the Danube).

  • Cheap and quick option: take Bus number 100E at the airport and get off at the last stop at Deák Ferenc tér. Simply exit the terminal and find the bus stop 100E. Unless you know what you are doing, do NOT take 200E, it is much slower and takes you to the metro stop from where you need to take the metro. Note that the regular bus ticket is not valid on bus 100E. Instead, you need to purchase a ticket at the bus stop from a ticket machine for 900HUF (cca. 3EUR). Budapest transit people are there to help operate the machine, it accepts bank cards.
  • Take a taxi. One company is authorised to serve the airport, their rate is about 7200HUF (EUR26) one way to downtown.
  • Minibud airport shuttle.
  • One can find other options on the net, we listed those that we find the most useful.
Restaurants

The university has a fairly cheap cafeteria near the conference building: Stoczek étterem: 1111 Budapest, Stoczek u. 1-3.

Travel to Budapest

When arriving by plane, you have to book a ticket to the Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD). To get to the city centre, you may take a taxi, or use a shuttle, or public transport. From nearby countries, taking a train may be a better option. Most international trains arrive at the Keleti station, some of them at the Nyugati station.
